USING THE APPLIANCE
1. To open the lid, depending on model: - Lid with assisted opening: press on the latching system and the lid will lift automatically (fig 2). - Lid with automatic opening: press on the button at the top of the handle (fig 3). - Locking lid: turn the lid anti-clockwise to unlock and lift off (fig 4). To close, press firmly on the lid or, for the locking lid, turn clockwise. If you need to use an extension cord, this must have an earthed socket and be suitably rated. Ensure that the cord and extension do not trail to avoid any falls.
· Do not open the lid while the water is boiling.
5. To turn on the kettle, press on the on/off button at the top or bottom of the handle, depending on the model (fig 7). The kettle will turn off automatically as soon as the water comes to the boil. Depending on the model, the indicator light will go out when the kettle switches off or is switched off. On first use we recommend that you discard the water as it may contain some dust. Place the base on a flat, stable, heat-resistant clean and cool surface.
Position the kettle and its supply cord well to the rear of the work surface. Do not place the kettle on or near slippery or hot surfaces or allow the cord to hang above a source of heat (cooking hob, gas cooker). Fill the kettle with the desired quantity of water (fig 5).
You can fill via the spout, which helps keep the filter clear. Always fill with sufficient water to cover the heating element (or the bottom of the kettle). Check that the lid is properly closed before use.
Do not leave water in the kettle after use. .

CLEANING AND CARE
To clean your kettle
Unplug the kettle from the mains. With very hard water, the filter can clog very quickly (10 to 15 uses). If it is wet, put it under a running tap, if dry, then brush it gently. Sometimes the scale will not detach itself; it will then need descaling.
Never immerse the kettle, its base, the wire or the electric plug in water: the electrical connections and the switch must not be in contact with water. [. . . ] No attempt must be made to dismantle the kettle or its safety devices. f the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its after-sales service centre or a similarly qualified person, in order to avoid any danger.
PREVENTION OF DOMESTIC ACCIDENTS
For a child, a burn or scald, even if slight, can sometimes be serious. As they grow up, teach your children to beware of hot liquids to be found in the kitchen. Position the kettle and its supply cord well to the rear of the work surface, out of the reach of children. [. . . ]
