[. . . ] Installing and Using Software · Using the PlexCombo on a Macintosh: Whether using the PlexCombo as a standard DVD-ROM or CD-ROM, or as a CD-R or CD-RW device, you will need additional drivers or software besides those that are part of the Macintosh operating system. The compatibility list is available from Plextor's web site at www. plextor. com. Before installing any software, check that all the cable connections between your PlexCombo and computer are correct, that the jumper is set properly, and the PlexCombo is recognized by your system. Install Applications Software In order to take advantage of the PlexCombo's ability to record on CD-R or CD-RW media, you will need packet writing or mastering applications software on your PC. If you purchased your PlexCombo as part of a Plextor kit and you have a PC, much of the software you need is included. You can also check the compatibility list on the Plextor web site at www. plextor. com, for software that supports the PlexCombo under other operating systems. About Recording Software Installing applications software lets you take advantage of the PlexCombo's ability to record on CD-R or CD-RW media. You'll find these applications in the SimpliCD and Easy CD Creator software supplied by Plextor. Applications software lets you use your PlexCombo drive in exciting new ways. · Packet writing software: This type of application lets you use your PlexCombo as an enormous floppy drive. · Mastering software: In conjunction with your PlexCombo drive, mastering software lets you create discs in specific formats, such as audio, data, mixed mode, and others. · Duplication software: This software lets you copy CDs. NOTE: If you use a CD-R disc with packet writing software, you can't use that disc later with mastering software (and vice versa). CD-RW discs also must be used with either one type of software or the other. You can, however, erase a CD-RW disc and use it again--and once a disc is erased, you can use it with either type of software. 26 PlexCombo 20/10/40-12A Installation and Users Manual Section 3. Installing and Using Software SimpliCD SimpliCD from Oak Technologies contains software for mastering and duplication. It has these main applications: · SimpliCD Copy: Lets you make an identical copy of any disc. · SimpliCD Recorder: This component of SimpliCD lets you make CDs containing audio, video and slide shows, including audio discs playable in your car or home stereo. You can also make digital audio files (MP3, WAV or WMA) from audio CDs. · SimpliCD ROM: Lets you save your computer files onto recordable CD media to create computer data read-only discs, for archiving or distributing data. SimpliCD ROM is easily accessed as a folder on your desktop and within Windows Explorer. For more information, and to learn how to use these powerful applications, install SimpliCD on your PC and refer to the online help guide. Easy CD Creator Roxio's Easy CD Creator also has mastering, packet writing, and duplication software. There are three main Easy CD Creator applications: · CD Copier: Lets you copy any CD. · DirectCD Format Utility: Prepares a CD-R or CD-RW disc so you can directly copy files to it in much the same way that you copy files to a floppy disk or removable drive. You can then use Windows Explorer, or any other program that can read from and write to a drive letter, to copy files to a CD.
