This User's Manual provides complete explanations of the features and functions of the printer. To maximize the life of your printer, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself fully with all of its functions. This User's Manual uses the following symbols to indicate important information. [. . . ] · Suspend or restart printing Click the name of the document you want to suspend and then click the To restart printing, click the icon. . Printing With Macintosh 253 Using the BJ Print Monitor I Changing the BJ Print Monitor Preferences You can change the preferences to effect how the BJ Print Monitor is displayed, how errors are reported, and so on. 1 With the BJ Print Monitor open, open the File menu and select Pause Printing. Printing With Macintosh 257 Uninstalling the Macintosh Printer Driver Note · You must use this procedure to remove the printer driver from your system when it is no longer needed, or before installing a new version of the printer driver. · Shut down all other software applications before you uninstall the printer driver. 1 2 Set the Canon Creative CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. Double-click the Printer Driver folder. 3 Double-click the folder for your language. Printing With Macintosh 258 Uninstalling the Macintosh Printer Driver 4 Double-click the BJ Installer icon. 5 Read the License Agreement and click the Agree button. 6 In the Choose list, click BJC-55 and click the Choose button. Printing With Macintosh 259 Uninstalling the Macintosh Printer Driver 7 Click the Custom remove tab and click the check boxes for the items that you want to remove. If a message warns you that another application is running in the background, click the Continue button to close the software application and continue. Note If the open software application contains data that has not been saved, click the Cancel button. Save the data in the open software application, close the application, and start over. Printing With Macintosh 260 Troubleshooting Error Messages Problems and Solutions Before You Call For Service Getting Help From Canon Servicing the Printer Troubleshooting 261 Error Messages One of the following messages may appear when an error occurs: Error writing to USBPRNxx: for Printer BJC-55 Service error xxx!* 300 (* alphanumeric code) Type x Error (x integer) Troubleshooting 262 Problems and Solutions Printout is not clear or has white streaks Strange characters printing Cannot start the print job USBPRNxx: write error appears on the screen Cannot install the printer driver Application Error or General Protection Fault appears on the screen Cannot print to the end of the print job Paper does not feed manually Printout rotated 90 degrees Vertical lines are broken BJ cartridge does not return to the home position after installation Cannot print via wireless infrared connections Paper skews or jams during feeding Screen colors and the printed colors do not match Document prints in black only Colors are broken or uneven Printing beyond the edge of a page, or portions of a printed page are missing Printer does not turn on Printer seems to be working but nothing prints Print job halts Printing blurred or smudged Printout is excessively curled Battery is not charging CHARGE/ERROR light is orange "Error Number: *300" appears on the screen and print job does not execute "Type x Error" appears on the screen Cannot execute background printing Cannot select the printer driver in the Chooser Troubleshooting 263 Problems and Solutions I Printout is not clear or has white streaks Low ink could cause faded characters and white lines to appear on the printout. Try printing a Nozzle Check Pattern Check the status of the BJ cartridge by printing the Nozzle Check Pattern. Printing a Nozzle Check Pattern Look at the Nozzle Check Pattern to confirm the print quality. A normal Nozzle Check Pattern printed with BC-10 Black BJ Cartridge A faded, broken Nozzle Check Pattern Only specific colors are faded The specific color ink may have run out. Then print a Nozzle Check Pattern to see if the printing quality has been restored. The Nozzle Check Patterns are faded regardless of color The print head may be clogged. Cleaning the Print Head Troubleshooting 264 Problems and Solutions If print quality is not restored after cleaning Perform print head deep cleaning to flush the nozzles. Print a Nozzle Check Pattern to see if the printing quality has been restored. Cleaning the Print Head If print quality is not restored after deep cleaning The ink may have run out. Replace the BJ tank and print the Nozzle Check Pattern to see if the print quality has been restored. Printing a Nozzle Check Pattern If print quality is not restored after replacing the BJ tank(s) Replace the BJ cartridge. Changing or Replacing a BJ Cartridge The print head may be worn out or the ink may have dried and ruined the nozzles. After replacing the BJ cartridge, print a Nozzle Check Pattern to see if the printing quality has been restored. Note If you will not be using the printer for an extended amount of time, leave the BJ cartridge installed inside the printer or remove it and keep it in the Ink Cartridge Storage Box to avoid damage. Troubleshooting 265 Problems and Solutions Check to see if the orange protective cap or tape has been re-attached to the print head Reattaching the orange cap or tape could cause dust and small particles to enter through the print head, which may cause the ink to clog. [. . . ] paper feed Refers to guiding a sheet of paper into the printer's paper path. pitch Refers to the number of characters per inch that can be printed using a fixed-space font. platen Printer component that holds the paper near the print head during ink transfer.
